Claudia Feres, Conductor

BIOGRAPHY

Born in São Paulo, Brazil, Claudia Feres has a Bachelor of Music from the Campinas State University (Brazil). After a period in Cincinnati and Chicago (USA), Ms. Feres received her Master of Music degree from Northwestern University, under the direction of maestro Victor Yampolsky. She has also studied with Eleazar the Carvalho, Fabio Mechetti, Gustav Meier, Robert Gutter, Teri Murai, Ronald Zollman and Jorma Panula.

                She awarded the medal of Honor of the city of Jundiai (Brazil) for her work as music director of the Jundiai Youth Orchestra from 1982 to 1986. Ms. Feres has appeared conducting the Porto Alegre Symphony Orchestra, Sao Paulo State Symphony Orchestra, Campinas Symphony Orchestra, Sao Paulo Municipal Symphony Orchestra, Brasilia Symphony Orchestra, Fukuda Chamber Orchestra, Opera Giocosa del Friuli Venezia-Giulia, Amazon Philharmonic.

                In 1987, she won the first prize in the Porto Alegre Symphony Orchestra Competition. She has also participated in the 42nd Spring Prague International Competition in 1990. In 1991, she was appointed principal conductor of the Londrina State Univertsity Orchestra (Brazil), where she worked for three years. In 1998, she participated in the International Institute for Conductors in Kiev where she conducted the Ukrainian National Symphony Orchestra during the Concert “Young Conductors of the Planet”.

                Claudia Feres was the associated conductor for the Santo Andre Symphony Orchestra (Sao Paulo, Brazil) from 2004 to 2006. She was the music director and principal conductor for the Jundiaí Chamber Orchestra from 1999 to 2003. From 2002 to 2006 she was the principal conductor for the Women Philharmonic Orchestra (AVON Women in Concert), where she worked with such artists as Barbara Hendricks and Kiri Te Kanawa. She has been the music director for the Jundiaí Music School (Brazil) since 1997 where she coordenates the Youth Orchestra - Orquestra de Câmara de Repertório since 2005.

Creator of various musical projects such as Concertos Matinais (Londrina - PR), Concertos Astra (Jundiaí - SP), "Music and Citizenship" (Jundiaí - SP). From 2008 to 2010 she was professor for the conducting classes at Souza Lima Music School.

From 2011 to 2014 she was principal conductor of the Heliópolis Youth Orchestra - Instituto Baccarelli. In 2011 she was appointed Principal Conductor and Music Director of the Jundiaí Municipal Orchestra, today in its 14th Season.

Projects

1998 A 2001

Initially named “Concertos Jundiai”, this series of concerts was created with the objective of bringing to the public of the city of Jundiai artists of national and international renown. Originally conceived for the Artistic Culture Society of Jundiai, the series soon obtained the sponsorship of the Astra Group and is now known as Astra-Finamax Concerts. The venue for the concerts is the Polytheama Theater of Jundiai.

SINCE 2002

Held every year since 2002, the School of Music of Jundiai (EMJ) Festivals are a musico-pedagogical project established by the EMJ in which students of early childhood music classes, those of more advanced instrument classes, members of chamber music groups, in addtion to the students’ parents and friends all participate. A theme or composer is chosen each year and developed in activities inclusive of all level of music ability. The festivals bring together the entire EMJ community in an event that emphasizes as much the social as the didactic element. Themes of past events have included The Beatles, Clube de Esquina, Bach, Tom Jobim.

SINCE 2005

Created in 2005, the program "Music and Citizenship" offers musica training activities free of charge to the community at large through projects made possible by legislation for the incentive of cultural development such as the Rouanet Law (Federal) and the ProAC (São Paulo state). The “Music and Citizenship” projects have already served children and teenagers from all social classes, offering them instrument, ear training, and chamber music classes. Activities seek through the practice of music to imbue its young participants with an awareness of the values and practices of citizenship.

SINCE 2005

The Repertoire Chamber Orchestra is one of the ensembles created in 2005 within the scope of the “Music and Citizenship”program. It is comprised of young musicians and aims to build a repertoire written specifically for the string orchestra and chamber music practice. Participation is free of charge.

2017

Created in 2017, the ensemble aims to offer its young participants, representing a wide range of instruments, the opportunity to develop the practice of ensemble play. The repertoire is also quite diverse, with a focus on musical arrangements and works for chamber music.

2019

Created for the Sesc Jundiai, the project is comprised of music workshops conducted by some of the most competent and prestigious music educators in Brazil. These workshops, given in anticipation of concerts by invited groups and musicians, aim to provide the participating children a musical experience that will prepare them for a more thorough artistic appreciation of those concerts.

2021 - March

The 1st Festival Concertos na Serra, is born from the meeting of some artists around the centenary space of the Church of Santa Clara, located in the heart of the Serra do Japi, an area of environmental protection in Jundiaí, State of São Paulo. Artistic Director - Claudia Feres.
